Counter Cultural

With such an extreme generation before us it is often times hard to see the positive side of being a apart of this Millennial Generation. I not only get the privilege to pour into them but also the honor to see them step into their destiny as children of God.

My latest experience with our Snowboarders DTS has been a very fulfilling one. Since last Thursday our school has been in Aspen, CO at the 15th annual X Games. With a record crowd and a lot of media attention we hit the venue hard, holding nothing back. Our heart in taking are current school to the X Games is to show Aspen and the world that their is a lifestyle that is “Counter Cultural” to what the world sees as normal in the extreme sports realm. What does this mean you might ask?

Through this local outreach we are not only showing the world but our students how to enjoy a passion without the by products that define most extreme sports. Our students are able to see first hand how to look at everyday people with a purpose of building relationships that show them value and love. I must say that even though I have been a part of full-time ministry for the past four years the challenge to spread God’s love is something that is ever changing.

Through our time in Aspen not only have the students tackle the challenge to get outside of themselves but it has also brought this principle  back to me. Our team often split into small groups and did different types of ministry. We were able to not only share the Gospel but we also passed out hot coco, played music on the streets, and purposely loved on the security/policemen at the venue.

God really showed us what true radical obedience is all about. There were many opportunities for us to experience God in practical ways. One of our main focuses was showing an independent documentary film called Jesus Freaks that was filmed here at YWAM Denver.

With a vision to show the snowboard culture that there is a different way to enjoy this extreme sport, we partnered with A Circle of Belief Productions to promote this film. Jesus Freaks captures the true nature of a Discipleship Training School and what it really takes to have your life radically changed by the knowledge of who Jesus is. This was very encouraging to see how God has partnered with us in the production and the amazing way we were able to bring this to this generation. Many people were touched by this and we as a group we changed as we saw God untie us for one purpose and one cause. I am privileged to be a staff member here at YWAM Denver. I have seen that not only is the Lord using me in this next generation but He has specific plans for me in this season. God has been birthing in me three things that are on His heart for me. One is to establish me in a ministry (Teaching), Two is that He is establishing me relationally (Building stronger relationships), and the third is that He is going to establish me financially (Monthly Support).

I have faith that as I continue to do what God is calling me to do here in Denver and in life that He will continue to open up new doors for me. I ask you to follow me in what God is doing in my life and through my life!

What can I say other than God is good. In this new season of my life with YWAM Denver my perception of ministry has truly shifted. It’s been three months since I’ve join staff here in Colorado and nothing has been the same. My life has taken on new meaning and God has given me new perspective on who I am!

Before coming on staff here, my heart was set on being a missionary outside of the country. I never saw or even knew that I was becoming an Urban Missionary! What is this and what does this look like you might ask? For me it has taken on the form of invading the pre-existing communities around me not just outside of the country.

As twenty-six students filled our base this past June, I was given the chance not only to help lead and disciple, but also to show our new students the heart behind the gospel. Relationship has taken on new form and given us all a platform to share with our surrounding community. Although there is a lot of teaching and learning that goes on here within the multiple schools being ran, nothing proves more fruitful than practical application.

One thing that has truly captured my heart this quarter is leading our local outreach to Denver’s down town skate park. This is where the students and myself have been challenged! I was able to see how reaching out to a hardened skate culture proved to be life giving and  very fruitful. The hardest part for me to overcome was the insecurity I faced walking into this ministry field.

Not coming from the skate culture myself I was at a loss for how to approach and be received by the young people at the skate park. This is where I had to fall on my knees and rely solely on God. It was only when I did this that He showed me different ways to capture the attention of the skaters in order to get to know them better. We were able to use photography, art, and music to invade this community and let our love for them and Christ shine all the brighter.

With as many as thirty students and staff coming together in prayer, vision, and love we have seen miracles perform. We were able to pray and bring God’s power into a place where there isn’t that much light and hope. Seeing people healed of ankle problems was just icing on the cake, but the real blessing was seeing young people’s heart turn once they saw that we cared for them.

Through the first three months of serving God in this capacity I am encouraged because of the way I see that God has made me. Never truly believing in myself and what how I was created I have never given my whole heart to seeking God and searching His word to unlock the mysteries of who He is.  This is a new season of intimacy, a new season of believing, and a new season of watching God transform my perception of who He is!

Love is the key for me. Not just learning how to love other but how to let others love me for who I am. My father in Heaven has spoken to me about the value of  relationships and how the love that comes with them is going to continue to remove the hurts of the past and bring me into the hope of the future.

Join me in this new season! Not just a season of service, but of exploring how deep the Love of our father goes. Join me in expecting to see God’s love in every aspect of our personal life in order to see Him in a different light and watching that light change the world right before our eyes!

Making room for the future…

Welcome to the journey of a life time. I”m Sinque and I am very excited that you are joining me in this adventure called life. I invite you into track with me as God continues to radically change my life!

Within the past year I have been a student in YWAM (Youth with a Mission) completing a Leadership DTS (Discipleship Training School) based out oF Belize in 2009 and more recently a School of Ministry Development here in Denver, CO.

This phase of my life has been a true encouragement to me seeing how God has so much purpose for my life! The worth and the value that I see inside myself because of what has shown me and spoken to me has changed the way I view myself and others!  Relationships are the key to life and I am excited that I am to appreciate the value of true friendship!

As God has been filling me with so much of His truth this has become more of a foundation for me to stand on as I step in to the next season of my life! God has delivered me from a fourteen year addiction to alcohol and a life of misery/hopelessness! Coming from such a dark and lifeless past I have seen the calling God has put in my heart

Our next Generation!!! I have clearly seen the importance of our youth not being deterred from their true identity by the vast areas of false fulfillment this world has to offer. With this burden to see our next generation set free from the “Status Quo” that labels them, I have committed to serving here at YWAM Denver.

This is a place where not only a high volume of youth come to receive training but also a place that lives a transformed. With such a high caliber of leadership and speakers serving here I am excited to see the reformation that is going to take place in this season.

On June 25, 2010 I graduated from the School of Ministry Development and will become a staff member here in Denver starting on June 27, 2010! God has fully assured me that this is the place he would have me share the things that have helped set me free with the hope that young people here will be able to learn and grow from the things that I have to offer.

I praise God for choosing me and allowing me to become such an intricate put of forming our next generation.

Please join me in doing life with God and the many lives that will that will experience God in a life changing way!
